which is the best between, angiogram test and thallium test?

“Several patients who undergo angioplasty return with the symptoms. That’s because the patient did not need an angioplasty. After the first heart attack, certain heart muscles die and cannot be recovered. But cosmetic angioplasties are still carried out throughout India.”  “Angiography can only detect blockages, and often gives false positives in female patients. Nuclear medicine can also show if the heart muscle is already dead and helps avoid unnecessary surgeries. The tests are also painless and non-invasive, and it costs about a third of an angiogram.” Nuclear medicine relies on radioactive isotopes to assess the blood flow in the heart. A technician inserts radioactive isotopes such as thallium intravenously. The isotope marks the blood flow and a gamma camera maps it. The test includes readings in active and resting positions. “Besides thallium, we now also use technetium, the lightest element of radioactive isotopes. It does not leave behind any radiation and is excr...

Doctors with PG from five English-speaking countries can now teach in medical colleges in India

The Medical Council of India (MCI) has amended the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 to make doctors holding postgraduate medical qualifications (MD, MS, DM or MCh) awarded in countries like the US, the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand eligible to teach in medical colleges in India. Till now, while students with medical degrees from the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Canada were exempted from the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination (FMGE) in order to pursue medical practice in India, they were not allowed to hold teaching posts. Do these doctors with foreign PG medical degrees would take up low-paying teaching jobs in medical colleges?

Generic Medicines... to write or Not to write ?

Dr KK Aggarwal, IMA National President Advise on Generic drugs Every body must remember each pharma makes ,  Generic Generic drugs and sell it with generic name. Generic trade drugs and sells with un-promoted brands Generic brand drugs and sells it with promoted brand names Name of the drug is written in all three formats. Brand version of their drug may be ten times costlier, quality remaining the same. what is the harm writing Omeprazole ( Reddys lab) instead of Omez Both are same company, same quality but differential pricing. Our right to choose the company will remain. After all we can not get a generic generic drug from jan aushidhi unless we write jan aushidhi Dear friends, we should only write the cheapest molecule drug available from the same company without compromising the quality. IMA 1. Write CAPITAL Write Legible Write NLEM Write Generic Generic of Jan Aushidhi or a standard company...

IMA's Observation regarding health care, medical education in the country

420 medical colleges,55000 MBBS seats, 30000 PG seats. 60doctors & 130 nursing staff per one lac people.  In fact one million modern doctors & one million AYUSH persons and 2.5million nursing staff registered in the country! Hold  your breath... 5million quacks make rampant and mutilate the health scape of the nation!!   60% of MBBS seats & 65% of  nursing colleges in  South india along with maharashtra (30% population). what  a disproportion ? Just 25% doctors &25% nurses   in rural, serving 70% of indian population! how skewed?         2.19 nurses and midwives per doctor compared to Sri Lanka’s 3.94 and Thailand’s 5.07. So, We suggest : The doctor population ratio is not the only criteria for better health parameters. It is the combined number of doctor, nurse, midwife and community health workers available per 1000 population which is more important.  Compared with countries like Sri Lank...

Recent Remarks that are heartening...

1. Remarks such as “If you (doctors) do not want to work, then resign. You are not factory workers who resort to such protests. Shame on you. How can doctors behave in such a manner?” by none other than Chief Judge of Bombay HC  “YES SIR, WE ARE FACTORY WORKERS. OUR FACTORY IS CALLED HOSPITAL & WE REPAIR BROKEN HUMAN BODIES. OUR LIFE IS DEARER TO US THAN OUR JOB, JUST LIKE ANY OTHER FACTORY WORKER.”   2. “No Surgery can claim 100% recovery”…, “In order to recover, the patient is expected to comply with the advice of the doctor”.. 60% Cancers are due to bad luck?40% are preventable!

Scientists have published new research that suggests up to 60% of cancers could be caused by random DNA mutations, rendering those cancers completely unavoidable. The other 40%, however, could be prevented via diet, exercise, and other environmental factors. Mutations occur each time our cells divide.  that 66 percent of mutations are random, 29 percent are caused by environmental factors, and 5 percent are due to hereditary factors. Usually, these mutations take place in segments of DNA that aren’t very important. However, if a mutation occurs in a cancer driver gene, we might suffer from some bad luck.
