Myth &Reality around the generic drugs?

Myth: that doctors are solely responsible for shooting-up of drug expenditure.

Tragedy : PM Modi ji unnecessarily pointing his finger towards doctors for his govt's inability.

So, as a responsible citizen and member of the prestigious association(IMA),every doctor has to search for the truth and appraise the public, media &our honourable PM sir.

                                           What is the Reality?

There is no problem with doctors and their drug prescriptions but its found through some authentic investigative study, that huge problems in drugs manufacturing& marketing  which leads to escalation of NLEM generics !

  • India has more than 67,000 drug formulations, but not enough quality control mechanism.
  • Even though 11% of our drug formulations are of poor quality (as per 2014 study) our beloved govt couldn't respond with needy measures.
  • The sale of drugs in a medical store is more "off the counter" than through prescription.
  • In both govt&private setups, the prescribing doctor is helpless as the sales persons in the medical store decide which "branded generic" or "generic generic" medicine has to be dispensed.

Target: Affordable quality medicines to all.

How to Make drugs cheaper and affordable?

1.    Government to strengthen the quality control mechanism in drug manufacturing and to ensure that each batch of drug available in the market is quality checked and preferably ISI marked.
2.    Government to enforce that all manufacturers to use only generic name for labeling their products.
3.    Govt has to strengthen the mechanism to see  all medicines must be sold only on doctor’s prescription.
4. Government should ban differential pricing of a drug under different brand names by one company.

If govt fulfills these measures, every doctor in our country obliged to use quality generics.

By the by, basing on all acts, regulations and judicial judgments and NMC  Ethics Regulations ,
The judgement to choose a rational drug vests only with Modern doctors only. Even PM can't interfere in the service of doctors. ...

IMA &FOMA (Federation of Medical Associations of India)  repeatedly appraising the  Union Health Minister and Prime Minister of India about the views of the medical fraternity on this issue.

So, My dear doctors,Don't confuse about these political fetters...
Please  choose drugs based on quality, efficacy and economy preferably from National List of Essential Medicines (NLEM) and write legibly and preferably in capitals letters.
