IMA's Observation regarding health care, medical education in the country

420 medical colleges,55000 MBBS seats, 30000 PG seats.
60doctors & 130 nursing staff per one lac people.
In fact one million modern doctors & one million AYUSH persons and 2.5million nursing staff registered in the country!
Hold  your breath... 5million quacks make rampant and mutilate the health scape of the nation!!

60% of MBBS seats & 65% of  nursing colleges in South india along with maharashtra (30% population). what a disproportion ?

Just 25% doctors &25% nurses   in rural, serving 70% of indian population! how skewed?

2.19 nurses and midwives per doctor compared to Sri Lanka’s 3.94 and Thailand’s 5.07.

So, We suggest :
The doctor population ratio is not the only criteria for better health parameters. It is the combined number of doctor, nurse, midwife and community health workers available per 1000 population which is more important.

Compared with countries like Sri Lanka, India has better doctor population ratio. But the nurse, midwife, health worker population ratios are worse.
Sri Lanka has better indicators than India. Though India has to increase the number of doctors in  rural areas of north india, more important is to increase country wide  the number of nurses, midwives and other health staff.
so,Plz dont encourage new medical colleges in south india.
Establish new medical &nursing colleges in north india and east india in rural regions.
