you don't need big cumbersome slit lamp. you don't need heavy computing and costly software to take images and transmit them to consultants. just  a smart phone and this small attachment. thats all. Researchers  have developed two new smartphone attachments that allow imaging of the both anterior segment and another one to exam retina of the eye that would normally done with large, bulky instruments. Ophthalmologists imaging the anterior segment of the eye (cornea, iris, ciliary body, lens) use slit lamp instruments that shine a bright flat beam of light onto the eye in combination with a microscope and costly funduscopy.  This  small iPhone attachment that snaps onto just about any smartphone to visualize the anterior segment. It consists of a small lens and an LED just next to it and is small enough to fit in your pocket. It’s positioned close to the eye, focused, and an image is taken to satisfactorily portrays a wide range of pathology of the eyelids, conjunctiva,

He & She & those ruined INDIA in the last decade !

He is an economist who  paved the liberal path under the leadership of sri P.V.Narasimha rao- one of the best prime ministers that our country had. This person who has been looked as better economist and good statesman by other country heads but here in the india,he is week, meek and frequently humiliated robotic personality, that history never excuses for his utter  failure in administration, economy, foreign relations, defence and home security. Even though we have 4 inefficient PMs before Manmohan, their stay is very short i.e.few days to few months. But Manmohan serves as PM for mind boggling and history making  and country devastating 10 years. 1. Corruption:  UPA2 is the most corrupt government ever and the number of scams it has is enough to make you sick.  the Prime Minister cannot escape the  blame as it is collective responsibility.. Being an economic expert he let the 2G fiasco under his big chair and to make matters worse he was the Coal Minister when the Coalgate scam

New guide lines to be followed by doctors to examine and treat the rape victims

These guide lines were drawn  by MOH with the help of   The Department of Health Research (DHR) along with Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to  formulate the set of national guidelines for dealing with criminal assault cases. Dr V M Katoch, secretary to GOI-DHR and director general ICMR and  Dr M E Khan (secretary, Sexual Violence Research Initiative) and  Indrajit Khandekar, in-charge Clinical Forensic Medicine Unit  - are some of the experts formulated these guide lines. 1. that every hospital must have a designated room to deal with Medico Legal Cases (MLC) of sexual assault to provide privacy to the victim and must have essential equipments listed in the guidelines. 2. while carrying out medical tests no third person must be present in the room other than the doctor. If the doctor is male, a female attendant must be there. 3. provide comprehensive care which must address issues like physical injuries, STDs, HIV, Hepatitis B, etc. Also the psychological effects must be

1. Gabapentin Efficacious for Refractory Chronic Cough. 2. Sleep Apnea Tied to Insulin Resistance in Young, Lean Men "In young, lean, and healthy men who are free of cardiometabolic disease, the presence of OSA is associated with insulin resistance and a compensatory rise in insulin secretion to maintain normal glucose tolerance," the authors write. "OSA may increase the risk of type 2 diabetes independently of traditional cardiometabolic risk factors." 3. The interventions in ventilator assisted respiration includes, include elevation of the head of the bed, breaks from sedation, assessments of patients’ readiness to extubate, prophylaxis for peptic ulcer and deep venous thrombosis, and daily oral care with chlorhexidine. 4. Cardioembolic Stroke May Be Associated With Obstructive Sleep Apnea &Atrial fibrillation.

Its not air lung. Its Hemolung ! Its going to be revolution in ICU !

Do you believe that we can work in ICU without ventilators? ALung Technologies’ Hemolung  overcomes many of the drawbacks of mechanical ventilation,by using dialysis to perform respiratory gas exchange in a process similar to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. During therapy, the patient can stay awake, allowing him to eat and communicate. why scientists are averse to mechanical ventilation? it has some serious drawbacks, including the need for sedation, the risk of ventilator associated pneumonia, and intubation or tracheostomy related complications. How Hemolung works? The Hemolung is a small, cylindrical, veno-venous extracorporeal CO 2  removal device and It provides roughly 30% to 40% CO 2  removal at blood flows in the range of 400 to 500 mL/min. which  translated into a CO 2  removal of 66 mL/min. The Hemolung requires a prime volume of 300 mL and minimal heparinization.  It is a ‘set it and forget it’–type device that is easy to use and operate.”  Additional potential

Artificial graft.

Cook Medical  is launching its Biodesign Duraplasty Graft for repair of the dura mater that surrounds the brain and spinal cord to prevent cerebrospinal fluid leaks. It’s intended for use to wrap up surgeries at the base of the skull, such as tumor resections, and to stop leaks resulting from disease or injury. The graft doesn’t swell when exposed to liquid and doesn’t fold on itself to maintain proper shape when implanted. It can be used with or without sutures. Biodesign graft technology is derived from a natural material. It is designed to enable physicians to easily manipulate and secure the graft. Biodesign has been used since 1998 to treat more than 750,000 patients worldwide. Biodesign is non-dermis based and non-cross-linked so that the body can remodel it into strong, well-vascularized tissue.

What INDIA needs in healthcare&public health?

1. INDIA needs more number of  institutions like ICMR,which is showing its excellency in many ways. The achievements of ICMR in developing various technologies such as the JE vaccine, Thalassemia diagnostic kit, AV Magni-Visualiser screening device for cervical cancer, and the recently launched three different kits for detection of food borne pathogens, diagnosing Iron Deficiency Anaemia, and Vitamin-A Deficiency. though the country   has made significant progress  in the last decade by adding about 40 labs with at least one in each state and  producing  vaccines and reagents,we still need more. 2. According to one  study, today over 70 per cent of healthcare technologies are imported and beyond reach of a majority of population. We have t o develop a pool of affordable and accessible technologies and solutions that create large impact in health care in India. We also need to take a completely new approach to screening, diagnosis and treatment in order to make healthcare affordabl
