Mankind strives hard for what? food, shelter, safety& security? yes, apart from these the main fulcrum for human pursuit is HAPPINESS!
It's important to note that happiness is subjective and can be influenced by a combination of external factors and internal disposition. Many individuals in Indian society find happiness through strong social connections, cultural and religious practices, celebrations, family bonds, and personal achievements. Additionally, initiatives and efforts are being made at various levels to address the challenges and improve the overall well-being and happiness of people in Indian society.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the
Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) have released a report,
showing that poverty fell from 55.1% in
2005/06 to 16.4% in 2019/21 in India.
Check the state of the Indian economy before the 90s.
Reforms done by PVNR helped to remove poverty. We miserably failed in education
and fixing economy. We were better than almost all Asians countries except
Japan.
STILL 25% OF INDIANS ( 35 crore people or 7crore households)
are Multidimensionally POOR!
8 crore indians still living below the UN's estimated
poverty line of $2 per day. Nothing wrong in accepting failures.
What is
global MPI?
· The global
Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) is an international measure of acute
poverty covering over 100 developing countries. It complements traditional
income-based poverty measures by capturing the severe deprivations that each
person faces at the same time with respect to education, health and living
standards.
· study was
based on three dimensions of poverty namely, health, education,
and living standards captured
by 10 indicators that are closely aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs).
Factors that can impact happiness
in Indian society include:
Economic Disparities: India is
still grappling with a significant wealth gap, and poverty remains a prevalent
issue. Economic inequalities can affect people's access to basic necessities,
education, healthcare, and opportunities for personal and professional growth,
which can impact their overall happiness.
Education and Employment: Access
to quality education and employment opportunities are crucial for individual
happiness. While India has made significant strides in improving literacy rates
and expanding educational opportunities, challenges still exist, particularly
in rural areas. Similarly, unemployment and underemployment continue to be
concerns for many Indians, leading to frustration and dissatisfaction.
Social Pressures and
Expectations: Indian society is known for its strong emphasis on family,
community, and traditional values. While these aspects can provide a sense of
belonging and support, they can also create pressures and expectations that
individuals may find challenging to meet. The pressure to conform to societal
norms, particularly regarding marriage, career choices, and gender roles, can
impact happiness for some individuals.
Gender Inequality: Despite
progress in recent years, gender inequality remains a significant issue in
India. Women continue to face challenges such as discrimination, gender-based
violence, limited opportunities, and unequal treatment in various aspects of
life. These factors can have a negative impact on their happiness and overall
well-being.
Mental Health: Mental health
awareness is growing in India, but there is still a stigma associated with
seeking help for mental health issues. The lack of accessible and affordable
mental health services and support can affect individuals' happiness and
quality of life.

Rank in World Happiness Index 2023
India ranks as one of the least happy nations in the world,
coming in at position 126 out of 136. As per the Happiness Index, India's
rank was 136 out of 146 nations in 2022. It even falls behind the countries
that are close by, such as Nepal, China, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Global
Peace Index (India's rank is 126 out of total 163 countries)
A composite index measuring the peacefulness of countries
made up of 23 quantitative and qualitative indicators each weighted on a scale
of 1-5. The lower the score the more peaceful the country.
Produced by the Institute for
Economics and Peace (IEP), the Global Peace Index (GPI) is the world’s
leading measure of global peacefulness. This report presents the most
comprehensive data-driven analysis to-date on trends in peace, its economic
value, and how to develop peaceful societies. The Global Peace Index covers
99.7% of the world’s population, and is calculated using 23
qualitative and quantitative indicators from highly respected sources,
and measures the state of peace across three domains:
– the level of Societal Safety and Security,
– the extent of Ongoing Domestic and International Conflict,
– and the degree of Militarisation.
The Global Terrorism Index (GTI) is a comprehensive
study analysing the impact of terrorism for 163 countries. The GTI scores each
country on a scale from 0 to 10; where 0 represents no impact from terrorism
and 10 represents the highest measurable impact of terrorism. One of the key
aims of the GTI is to examine these trends. It also aims to help inform a
positive, practical debate about the future of terrorism and the required
policy responses. ITS A PITY & SORROWFUL THAT OUR INDIA'S SCORE IS
7.15.
Ecological Threat Report : A composite index
measuring the impact of ecological threats to countries made up of 5
qualitative indicators each weighed on a scale of 1-5. The higher the score,
the more at risk the country. Once again its sorry state of affairs that
india's index is 4 which is alarming!
Positive Peace is
defined as the attitudes, institutions and structures that create and sustain
peaceful societies. The same factors that create lasting peace also lead to
many other positive outcomes that societies aspire to, including:
• thriving economies
• better performance on ecological measures
• high levels of resilience and adaptability to change.
Other factors that improve with Positive Peace are measures
of inclusiveness, wellbeing and happiness. Therefore, Positive Peace can be
described as creating an optimal environment for human potential to flourish.
Positive Peace is conceptually and empirically linked to
socio-economic resilience. Countries with high Positive Peace
are more likely to maintain their stability and recover more easily from
internal and external shocks. Through the modelling of the
relationship between Positive Peace and the actual peace of a country, as
measured through the Global
Peace Index (GPI), it is possible to predict large falls in peace. india's score is 3.1.
Apart from prosperity or poverty the country on the moral
scale is gradually declining!
Being the capital of spiritual civilization since eons, its
painful and gut-wrenching to see INDIA falling flat in the moral sphere!?
INDICES OF MORALITY, HUMANITY&HAPPINESS and PEACE SHOULD BE THE DENOMINATORS OF CIVILIZATION.
