WHAT IS MODERN MEDICINE? WHO CAN & who shouldn't PRACTICE IT?

1.Define the  Allopathic Medicine or Modern Scientific Medicine?

It is a System of Medicine, which is described in the National Medical Commission Act 2019.

Modern medicine has done much in the fields of infectious diseases and emergencies using drugs & surgery (ectomy /otomy/ trypsy/ plasty/ orrhaphy/implant) and EM radiation( X Rays /gamma rays/ US waves/ UV&IR waves ) with constantly evolving techniques and technologies to aid cure. In most other fields, it is mostly control that it aims for, which is another name for palliation. Pharmacology, psychopharmacology included, is mostly directed towards such control and palliation too.

Also called allopathic medicine, biomedicine, conventional medicine, orthodox medicine, and Western medicine.

Modern Medicine has extended our lifespan and we can now treat disease and illness with more ease.

2.How NMC ACT was promulgated? & what are its Objectives?

Before 2019, Medical Council of India, established under the Indian Medical Council Act 1956 is looking after the medical education and medical profession in the country. After repealing this IMC act, the new act titled as NMC act is enacted by the Parliament of India.

National Medical Commission basically monitor the quality of medical education and ethicality in medical profession. so it makes norms, minimum eligibility criteria and rules, and sanction approvals, accreditations and recognition for establishment of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Medical Colleges in the Country. It also maintains a National Register of all Registered Allopathic doctors in the Country. The website is www.nmc.org.in.

3.What is the theory and mechanism of allopathic medicines ?

The allopathic medicines have been based on reductionist approach and first pass mechanism.

Reductionism is a style of perception, teaching and practicing medicine that focuses on addressing symptoms and proximate causes. An implicit assumption of reductionism is that correcting the part will enhance wholeness.

Biomedical reductionist models take the view that all disease can be reduced to biological causes in the body; typically, treatments of those diseases are also biological in character, such as surgery or medications.

The first pass effect is a phenomenon in which a drug gets metabolized at a specific location in the body that results in a reduced concentration of the active drug upon reaching its site of action or the systemic circulation.

 A)Why is first-pass metabolism important?

Knowledge of first pass metabolism can assist the prescriber when deciding on doses and dose schedules to ensure that patients receive their medications at the correct dosing, by the correct route for optimum therapeutic effect.

B)What is the difference between reductionist and holistic approach?

Holism is an approach to understanding the human mind and behavior that focuses on looking at things as a whole. It is often contrasted with reductionism, which instead tries to break things down into their smallest parts.

C)What is modern medicines made of?

Medicines come from a variety of sources. Many were developed from substances found in nature, and even today many are extracted from plants. Some medicines are made in labs by mixing together a number of chemicals. Others, like penicillin, are byproducts of organisms such as fungus.

 4. Who can practice Allopathic Medicine in India? Who are unregistered Allopathic doctors?

As per NMC Act, after completing MBBS & internship, they have to register with a Govt established State Medical Council for Allopathic drs and are called as Registered Medical Practitioners of Allopathic Medicine. The Rights of Registered drs are described in Section 34 of NMC Act 2019.

All other doctors who treat with Allopathic medicine or procedures independently can be called as Unregistered Allopathic Drs.

5.How to identify a NMC licensed Allopathic doctor?

The State Medical Councils, Previous Medical Council of India issue a Registration Certificate with Unique Registration Number. The presence of Genuine Registration certificate can be used to identify Govt licensed Allopathic dr.

6.What is the punishment for unregistered doctors?

As per Section 34 of NMC Act 2019, punishment for unregistered allopathic drs is upto one year imprisonment or 5 lakh rs fine or both.

Posing A Threat To The Sanctity Of The Medical Profession And At The Same Time Diabolically Playing With The Lives Of The Susceptible Public, Quackery Is A Growing Menace In The Country Which Keeps On Mushrooming Year After Year. Under The Facade Of Attractive Advertisements And False Qualifications Claims, Such Miscreants Dupe Vulnerable Patients In Every Nook And Corner Of The Country..

7.To whom, shall a complaint against an unregistered allopathic doctor be made?

As per Section 54 of NMC Act, NMC, State Medical Councils or Officers authorised by them are authorised to file cases against unregistered allopathic drs. Report all unregistered Allopathic drs to State Medical Councils. However, owners of Allopathic clinics may be liable for punishment under various State Govt Acts for clinics and hospitals. Eg. As per Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act 2007, unregistered clinic owners are liable for punishment of up to 3 years jail term.

9. Is quackery a malpractice?

Quackery and poor medical care overlap but are not identical. Quackery entails the use of methods that are not scientifically accepted. Malpractice involves failure by a health professional to meet accepted standards of diagnosis and treatment.

10.What is the Statutory Body, established by Govt of India to Act on Quacks practicing as allopathic doctors?

NMC, New Delhi.

11. what is the recent stringent direction issued by the NMC to state councils?

Quackery Crackdown: NMC Directs State Medical Councils To Appoint Officers For Taking Action Against Quacks "In Order To Enforce The Aforementioned Provisions Prescribed Under Section 34 Read With Section 54 Of The National Medical Commission Act, 2019, All Medical Councils Shall Appoint An Officer To File Complaints Before The Court Or Any Other Concerned Authority To Take Appropriate Action Against Quacks As Per Law.

State Medical Councils shall furnish an annual report to the Commission this regard, it stated.

Acting on the National Medical Commission's direction for eliminating quackery, the State Medical Council in Tamil Nadu has set up a 'Quackery Eradication Wing' to deal with the complaints in this regard. Already Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) has received altogether 60 complaints against quacks across State within two months, reports The Hindu.
