Gone are the days, doctors have to send a patient’s samples to laboratories for testing which can be time consuming, inconvenient and expensive. However, a new device has been developed which works in synergy with a smart phone and enables it to detect mutations in a cell’s DNA. This device might just help doctors avoid the entire process of sending samples to independent laboratories for testing. It will definitely speed up the diagnosis.
The device was developed by a team of developers from UCLA, Uppsala University and Stockholm University and will cost around $500 per unit. In comparison, a high-end microscope used for the same job can cost as much as $50,000.
