PM Modi Ji is very particular to increase the availability of doctors and para-medical staff especially in the poor performing states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Odisha .
so, The BJP government has begun work on a major overhaul of the Medical Council of India as it looks to create more medical colleges and produce more doctors to cater to growing healthcare needs.
And the government has set up a three-member high-powered panel to prepare a blueprint to revamp the current set up.
This panel pointed out that, as the MCI is one of the major stumbling blocks towards a faster expansion, so, it has to be either revamped or replaced at the earliest possible time!
Last month the parliamentary standing committee on health and family welfare had called for a complete overhaul of the MCI as it has repeatedly failed in its mandate as a regulator of medical education and profession.
it also recommended that the new legislation be brought in Parliament "at the earliest" in place of IMC Act.
