Medical Education in A.P.!

Medical Education in A.P.!

Two major shifts  have been happened in medical education . one is higher enrollment of girls and another is exponential rise of management seat donations.

Increasing wealth of the state's elite over the last couple of decades makes medical college donations have been exploded . 30 years back the donation was in the range of 10 to 20000/- only.By mid-2000, the price of a management quota seat had touched the Rs 10 lakh mark and at that time, the girl-boy ratio was 50:50. Now,An estimated 70% of management quota seats in medical colleges have been cornered by the fairer sex.
Seven years later, the donation for management seat  has multiplied 10 times, with some colleges this year(2013)even selling seats for Rs 1 crore.
in the 1970s, there were 10 government medical colleges in the state with 1,500 seats all put together. But four decades later, at present,About 80,000 to 90,000 students are vying for approximately 5,500 seats,".

In july-2012, AP high court frames new rules for management quota medical seats.According to this interim order which comes in to immediate effect, the managements of medical colleges have to follow merit in accordance with the marks obtained by the candidates in their intermediate examinations even for allotting management quota seats.

the judge further directed that the final list be produced before the court before it is finalized. While 60% of the total seats are allocated under the EAMCET convenor's quota, private college managements have complete control over the remaining 40%.
