Fitness FAQs

1.what is lipo-toxicity? The excess of triglycerides and fatty acids created by the visceral fat cells will go into the liver through portal vein and accumulate in the liver as fat. This concept is known as 'lipotoxicity'

2.how to measure the visceral fat?   By Waist measurement.the severity of central obesity is determined by taking waist and hip measurements. the normal waist-hip ratio >0.9 for men and >0.85 for women.waist-to-height ratio <=0.5 is ideal. waist circumference at least half of the individual's height is predictive of increased risk.

3.what is the best screening tool to  assess  metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease.? Index of Central Obesity (ICO) which is the ratio of waist circumference and height. Bioelectrical impedence analysis is also best non invasive procedure to know visceral fat accurately.

4.How visceral fat effects health?   Hypertrophy of intra-abdominal adipose cells are resistant to the antilipolytic effect of insulin. The resulting non-esterified fatty acid  flux to the liver causes impairment of liver metabolism which leads to over production of glucose in the liver.

5.How to reduce visceral fat? cardiovascular (aerobic) exercise with resistance training is more effective.

6.when is the best time to do cardio execises?fat oxidation is inhibited during exercise following carbohydrate ingestion.the total fat oxidized in a fasting condition is 23% greater than under pre-fed conditions.
The best time to perform cardiovascular exercise is first thing in the morning on an empty stomach after drinking 16 to 24 ounces of water in order to prevent dehydration. we would need to perform cardio for 20-30 minutes just to get to the fat burning stage and for an additional 20 minutes just so that you burn fat.
note:aerobic exercise should not be performed for more than 6 sessions a week of 20-45 minutes a day for males and 30-45 minutes for females since this would put you at a risk of losing muscle mass.

7.what is fat burning zone?   aerobic exercise to be effective, it needs to be performed within the fat burning zone. Your pulse  determines this zone. The fat burning zone formula is the following:
Fat burning zone=220-(Your Age) x (.75) .

8.what is the best way to loose fat? Daily cardio for 25minutes, as part of a short term fat loss cycle, supported with the proper nutrition and weight training, is the best way in the world to lose body fat.
