300-hr course a must for MBBS doctors wanting to do ultrasounds

Tuesday, July 24, 2012
Any MBBS doctor wanting to do ultrasounds will now be required to do a 300-hour course in the basics of ultrasonography approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and conducted by an MCI-recognised institution.
The government has mandated the course under the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act 1993, which says any MBBS wanting to do ultrasounds must take six-month training in the area.
MBBS doctors, already practicing ultrasonography on the basis of the old provision in the law, will need to clear a competency test at the time of renewal of their clinic’s registration
