 India has the largest number of deaths in the world due to accident.

Death per 10,000 Vehicles is: 2 persons in USA, 32.5 persons in Pakistan, and 140 persons in India.

where can we find fellowship or PG degree courses in EMERGENCY MEDICINE ?

Vinayaka Mission Salem & SRMC Chennai, many institutions from B’lore ( e.g. St Johns, Fortis, Apollo ), Vellore ( CMC ) , Delhi (Max) and Pune (Symbiosis) have Fellowship courses in Emergency Medicine.

The BLS/ACLS/PALS programs of the American Heart Association are conducted in India .
  • AHA has recognized at a least dozen institutes as International Training Organizations [ITO] of the AHA.
  • The International Trauma Life Support [ITLS] USA has recognized three institutes in India as the Chapters of ITLS [Symbiosis, IIEMS, Ramaiah Medical College] which conduct ITLS Basic and Advanced Trauma courses.
  • Academy of Traumatology (Ahmedabad), conducts the National Trauma Management Course [NTMC] and the Disaster Management Course.
  • Advanced Trauma Life Support [ATLS] of ACS is being conducted at AIIMS (Delhi ) and IIEMS.
  • At present only 2 teaching hospitals ( Vinayaka mission medical college and Sri Ramachandra Medical College ) teach structured 3 year M.D course as well the paramedic courses.

  • NOTE: MCI has recognized Emergency Medicine in July 2009 as a specialty course.
