We, the following signatories understand that government of india is contemplating a 3-year short medical course called BRHC (Bachelor of Rural Health Care)
1. The dangers inbuilt in creating two levels of cadres in medical profession and two levels of health care for citizens are self evident. provision of second quality care to rural areas is unacceptable and is against all laws of human dignity and equity. this also violates the fundamental right to life guaranteed by the constitution of India.
2. Indian doctors have brought laurels to the nation by their professional acumen. health care of international standards is available in india today due to the professional competence of indian doctors. creation of substandard medical course like BRHC will dilute the standards set by medical profession for itself.
3. Rural health care will be better served by increasing the budgetary allocation from 1.04% to 3% of GDP. Poverty alleviation, health care awareness, provision of potable drinking water and sanitation facilities will be the appropriate interventions.
As citizens of great nation, we submit this memorandum requesting your excellence to advise and intervene against the proposal to create a short term medical course (BRHC). the introduction of such a course will surely compromise the health of the nation, especially those who are poor beyond redemption.
Thanking you
yours sincerely
concerned citizens of india.
