Code of ethics decoded

Code of Ethics: In order to highlight the significance of certain points, the Commission in the new Code of Medical Ethics has made use of the English language. NMC stated that  "The words ‘must’, ‘shall / should ’and ‘may ’are used purposefully in these guidelines and indicate the degree of obligation that the doctor has to follow the guidelines. The word ‘must ’indicates a higher level of commitment and obligation required of the doctor, while in the case of ‘shall/should ’the level of obligation is less and there could be room for individual judgment." According to the Code of Medical Ethics, released by NMC, the following are the  "Must"  for medical practitioners: 1. Must provide care for the patient with compassion and respect, keeping the best interest of the patient in mind at all times. 2. Must protect patient confidentiality and privacy, and treat every patient equally, without discrimination. 3. Must not refuse to treat a patient in case of medical emer

Do Plants Think?

Do Plants Think? Scientist Daniel Chamovitz unveils the surprising world of plants that see, feel, smell—and remember! Plants are intelligent, that they have minds of their own'because they are, really, computational systems. Living beings, even the simplest ones, even the cell, are already engaged in an autonomous struggle to maintain themselves and survive. Living beings, even the simplest ones, already have something like rudimentary minds — motivated sensitivities and useful interests — and so they are way beyond Watson(SUPER COMPUTER)." As sentient life forms that have “tropic” and “nastic” responses to stimuli, plants can sense water, light, and gravity — they can even defend themselves and send signals to other plants to warn that danger is here, or near. A Washington State University study found that plants have feelings and can distinguish when touch starts and stops. “Even without nerves, plants can sense when something touches them and when it lets go,” s

What is the future of doctors in India?

Before we discuss about the future, let's focus on the present!  still 21 lac candidates are competing for one lac MBBS seats in NEET.  In a country with incredible diversity and diaspora of 140 CRORE POPULATION, few lacs competing for one lac seats is not a news at all.  the noble profession has been degraded and tarnished to such a status that majority of medical fraternity developed aversion to the profession and staunchly opposing their kids to enter into the profession! In reality though, we have no clue. No one really knows how many doctors are actually practicing in India, i.e. are part of the “living/practicing” list of doctors. We have no tracking mechanism once a doctor has registered themselves in their respective State medical councils. We just use gross, inaccurate estimates. considered to exclude the dead, retired, stopped practice, never practiced or migrated doctors, statisticians gives us an arbitrary number (80%) of 10.41 lakh doctors currently practicing in

The Role of AI in Healthcare

The Role of AI in Solving the Issues of Accessibility and Affordability in Healthcare In today's rapidly changing world, the healthcare industry is facing numerous challenges, including accessibility and affordability. The good news is that artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool to address these issues and revolutionize healthcare. During the pandemic, consumer know-how and interest in healthcare increased dramatically. The providers of healthcare recognised the impact of technology in the sector. Gone are the days when we had to explain the importance of tele-medicine to the doctors,” Another major challenge to adapt technology is the belief that all ailments, big or small, require a visit to the doctor. Based on our data, less than 10 percent of our ailments require a physical visit to the doctor for them to make a diagnosis. Only over time do people start realising that there is no need to visit the doctor for everything. With technology, people can st
