The stastics says , India has just one doctor for every 1,700 people, while the global ratio is one doctor for every 670 persons. It’s estimated that 60,000 Indian physicians work abroad. But what our country needs is more number of highly skilled family physicians at rural level . we have alternative stream of physicians under "AYUSH" category who are serving large section of rural people. so that india has ratio of 1 DOCTOR (allopathy + ayush ) for every 600 people which is the ideal standard prescribed by WHO. We have enough doctors . we don't need more docors or more medical colleges. what is the need of hour is - imparting all round skills to existing family physicians. appoint the doctors in rural,tribal regions by paying the double salary. Revamping the MBBS curriculum to train the medicos sufficiently in all round skills.
